Holy Family Student Madelyn Kucker Awarded Father Allen Scholarship for Academic and Community Excellence

Holy Family School eighth grader Madelyn Kucker has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious Father Allen Scholarship, awarded annually to students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and service to church and community.

Madelyn, who will attend St. Bede Academy this fall, has maintained a 3.93 GPA while consistently earning high honors since fifth grade. She also earned second place in the Oglesby American Legion essay contest, reflecting her writing skill and engagement with civic values.

In addition to her academic achievements, Madelyn is actively involved in her community and parish. She volunteers at Sacred Heart Church's Vacation Bible School in Granville and has completed a variety of service projects, include organizing a food drive, serving at pancake breakfasts, assisting at graduation events, and donating to the PADS homeless shelter.

She is also a four-year member of the basketball and track teams, a two-year cheerleader, and recently portrayed Mary in the Living Stations of the Cross—one of Holy Family’s most cherished Lenten traditions.

“Madelyn is a quiet leader who leads by example,” said Janelle Buck, her eighth-grade homeroom teacher. “She lives out the message of St. Francis: ‘Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words.’ Her grace, kindness, and strength of character make her a role model for others.”

This scholarship was established to honor Fr. Allen Mattingly, a Benedictine monk. at  Bede.  Fr. Allen faithfully served both the community and the school for over forty years. This year the board of directors voted to increase the award from $ 2,000 to $2500 and with that Hannah will get that amount of financial support toward her tuition for each of the next four years .
